about

***This song contains the F bomb. Consider yourself alerted***

This track began as an inspiring song by a good friend, Sweet Street. He gave me his blessing to write my own verses and share it. This song became my way of shouting about the issues I see peeking through the cracks of our societal standards. It is a comment on ways I feel I can do better and the perspective I've gained from it all. I can't speak for Sweet Street about what it meant to him, but for me the phrase "fuck the police" is not against individuals who do valuable work in the profession, but rather a comment on the kind of society I believe humans should be capable of living in, where police are not necessary.

lyrics

*Chorus*
Rebels say, rebels say, rebels say oh rebels say
“fuck the police, yeah, fuck the police
bring us the peace and let go the leash”.

*Verse 1*
Most people will admit that life is full of knocks. Let those without sin throw the first rock. Through the wall of those folks living in glass,
that shit ain’t cheap and you know it won’t last.

Minding my own business, walking on by, when I passed a man,
looked like a pretty decent guy,
but he was talking to this kid who was sleeping on the street
“Get a job, no one likes a deadbeat”.
Kid looked him in the eye, said “I could be your son,
one day I’ll be a father so treat me like one.”

*chorus*

Verse 2
Sometimes life is hard. Harder than you wanted it to be
but if you look you’ll see what’s worth the fight hardly ever comes free. Sometimes the path ain’t clear, right foot, left foot, playing it by ear.
Sometimes the way is plain, set your eyes head and take a look again.
Spending too much time, looking ‘round behind.
Who’s way am I going, who’s travelling mine?
But you gotta turn around, yeah you gotta keep going down your road,
with your head held high. Right foot, left foot, see you on the other side.

*chorus*

Verse 3
So I’ve got ten voices talking in my ear,
“What’s good, what’s bad, run away, stay here?”
I’m supposed to know what’s really going on,
but the day’s so bright and the night’s so long.
What’s right to day is tomorrow’s mistake,
find what you want and love what you take.
Try not to worry your pretty little head, the world will keep on turning.

Minding my own business, walking on by, when I passed a man
looked like a pretty decent guy,
but he was talking to this kid who was sleeping on the street
“Get a fucking job, no one likes a deadbeat”.
Kid looked him in the eye, said “I could be your son,
one day I’ll be a father so treat me like one.”

Eating, sleeping, falling, flying, loving, fucking, hating, lying.
We all hold on, we all mess up, we’re all so good but we’re all fucked up!!

*chorus*
